Senior Credit and Collections Analyst

Your role in helping us shape the future:

This position applies professional level expertise to provide critical assistance to assess the risk associated with extending credit to potential and existing international customers. The incumbent will also help safeguard the assets of Intelsat by minimizing bad-debt risks and will maximize cash inflows through the timely collection of delinquent accounts receivables.

 

Are you up to the challenge?

  • Coordinate collections, contact customers as soon as they become past due, and follow up on broken commitments, prioritizing workload in order to maintain the shortest possible collection period while minimizing bad-debt loss.
  • Limit the financial exposure to Intelsat by constantly reviewing customers’ revenue liability and making sure adequate collateral is obtained to secure services.
  • Continuously maintain various databases to assure the continued integrity of data and facilitate information sharing. Develop efficient and time sensitive procedures for working with various Intelsat departments.
  • Obtain financial and relevant information through annual reports and making contact with all references (banks, credit rating agencies, and trade references) to determine the risk level of each customer. Analyze financial and essential information to recommend appropriate credit terms of each customer.
  • Ensure regular communication with Sales and Sales Support teams.
  • Work closely with Treasurer's Office/Banks/Customers to ensure the timely receipt, recognition and application of payments. Also, to obtain and safe-keep guarantees and Letters of Credit where appropriate.
  • Research and sometimes coordinate the identification and resolution of customer problems such as billing and payment application errors.
  • Take leadership on specific accounts, leading to payment resolution (implementing all necessary steps as notice of non -payment, suspension of services where needed in coordination with senior management
  • Attend customer/company events in order to develop and improve communication/relationship.
  • Prepare and recommend month end reserves
  • Participate to credit committee meetings
  • Regular Meeting / Calls with Sales Directors to ensure communication about default customers

 

Can you drive these processes?

  • Educate internal and external customers about Intelsat's billing terms and credit and collection policies.
  • Develop continuous improvement techniques to reengineer existing policies and procedures. Propose process refinements to enhance internal/external customer support and service.
  • Monitor industry practices and global and regional events that could enhance or adversely affect receivables, country risk,
  • Good communication/negotiation skills

 

You should definitely have:

  • Degree from an accredited university required, preferably with a focus in financial management, accounting or a similar specialty
  • Must have at least (5) years of experience in accounting or finance, with a basic understanding of accounts receivables and cash collection processes
  • Must be fully bi-lingual in English and French, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiating skills, with the ability to adapt to various work styles
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • This position is based in Sandton, South Africa and candidates must be authorized to work in that location.
