 Program Manager, Bus Electrical

Your role in helping us shape the future:

You will be responsible for satellite system design, integration, validation and testing with regard to Bus Electrical subsystems, monitoring both Intelsat's own spacecraft programs and those of external customers who have contracted with Intelsat.  Bus Electrical responsibilities include Electrical Power (solar array, battery and control), Attitude Control (sensors, actuators and control), Data Handling (telemetry and data acquisition, command distribution and control), Electric Propulsion, Flight Software (support for Data Handling, Attitude Control, Electric Orbit Raising, and Fault Detection Isolation and Recovery), Wire Harness (support for all subsystems), Electrical aspects of qualification (thermal and thermal-vacuum cycling, radiation, EMC, ESD). You will monitor multiple programs with different designs and will interface directly with customers in support of their programs.  You will be independently responsible for these bus subsystems and will report to the Spacecraft Program Manager or the Senior Manager of the Palo Alto Office as necessary.

Are you up to the challenge?

  • Conduct all tasks related to the Intelsat spacecraft electrical bus procurement activities at all phases of the programs under supervision by Intelsat's Palo Alto program office.
  • Provide assessment of the spacecraft electrical bus subsystems design and evaluate the adequacy of the hardware and firmware to satisfy the contracts requirements.
  • Provide a continuous assessment of the electrical subsystems performance and performance budget as a result of design changes, development, manufacturing and test.
  • Work in close cooperation with the spacecraft program manager to ensure the performance of the electrical subsystem is compatible with other S/C subsystems.
  • Evaluate bus electrical test programs at the subsystem and system levels to ensure that these test programs adequately test the performance of the spacecraft's hardware and firmware over the applicable range of environment.
  • Witness spacecraft integration and test activities and participate in test data review.
  • Review the spacecraft operational and contingency procedures for technical accuracy, prior to their delivery to HQ for launch rehearsals.
  • Support spacecraft launch site operations, mission operations and in-orbit operations, including in-orbit anomaly investigations.
  • Coordinate technical support from other Intelsat groups as required for performing the primary function of the position.
  • Coordinate relevant bus electrical technical interface with other organizational entities of Intelsat and applicable external customers.

You should definitely have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study, with at least seven years of direct experience with spacecraft system design and testing.
  • The ability to work independently as part of a field office involved with continuous interface with customers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Top notch customer service skills, including the ability to respond to customer questions and requests in a timely manner and the ability to stay cool under pressure when investigating possible spacecraft anomalies.
  • Expert-level knowledge of spacecraft system design, hardware, firmware, programs and testing modules.
  • Excellent verbal and written command of the English language.

It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience in working with contractor or vendor management.
  • Experience in spacecraft bus electrical design and evaluation.
