Senior Payload Engineer

The successful Senior Payload Engineer will maintain earth station testing equipment through both hardware and software enhancement, integration, and development used for in-orbit testing (IOT).  They will provide technical expertise for the Payload/TC&R subsystems regarding state of health monitoring, procedures and software requirement development in support of the operation of these subsystems - on all satellite in-orbit and on planned new satellites.

Are you up to the challenge?

  • Utilize test instruments to integrate and measure earth station components and subsystem performance as per design and specifications documents
  • Interface with vendors to procure the necessary hardware to upgrade and update earth stations outfitted with our testing equipment
  • Collaborate with multiple departments across the company to coordinate testing, installation, shipping, and requirements for testing equipment
  • Build tools for and perform data processing and analysis in support of payload IOT and day-to-day operations.
  • Support the generation of software and hardware requirements for systems supporting the operation of the Payload subsystems for new and existing satellites and to participate in the functional check-out of the implemented systems.
  • Perform the work related to the operation of the payload of planned and in-orbit satellites.  This includes the preparation of operational, contingency and emergency plans and procedures
  • Definition and conduction of special tests to verify subsystem performance
  • Support the communications payload configuration and test execution during payload in-orbit tests (24 hour support may be required)
  • Reconfiguration of the Payload subsystem to support operational and test requirements
  • Evaluation of subsystem state of health and recommending actions to prolong satellite life
  • Support investigations of anomalies in orbit

Can you drive these processes?

  • Ability to successfully interact with vendors, customers, satellite manufacturers and other satellite operators.

You should definitely have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science preferred)
  • At least five years of relevant experience
  • RF, Analog and Digital Satellite Communications system design, test and analysis knowledge
  • Experience with procedural remote command and control systems
  • Software requirements; system design and analysis experience
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
  • Ability to utilize his/her training and experience to react to real-time situations promptly and accurately
  • Good written and verbal skill

It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience with Earth Stations for Satellite Communications
  • General proficiency in the use of computers, Windows, Linux, Office applications, programming language
  • Computer programming experience using MATLAB, Phyton, Java, VEETEST
  • Website design experience using SQL, php, JavaScript
  • Test Instrumentation experience using Vector spectrum analyzers, Vector signal generators, Power meters, etc.
  • Ability to write use cases and requirement documentation for vendors, contractors, and developers to implement
