Principal Field Service Technician


Your role in helping us shape the future:

As a senior member of our Technicians team in the Pamaulu Teleport, you will ensure communications equipment operates properly and delivers the highest standard service to our customers.

In your role as Principal Technician in a 24/7 Teleport you provide operational technical support at lead/expert level. Your excellent technical knowledge and expertise allow you to quickly and accurately assess data and provide efficient restauration of services during outages or derogations as well as perform complex tests and identify anomalies.

You will have the opportunity to act as mentor to junior technicians and provide oversight to staff during after hours and weekends. 


Are you up to the challenge?

  • You lead complex maintenance support activities, including replacement of major assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, repair and calibration/alignment of electronic and electromechanical equipment and products.
  • You lead technical resolution when performing emergency restoral actions of all ground station equipment, as applicable: up converters, down converters, HPA’s, fiber optic subsystems, LNA/LNB’s, antennas,
  • You provide expertise to troubleshoot and resolve the most complex operations issues down to Lowest Field Replaceable Unit (LFRU) or to a component level replacement when applicable.  Implement detailed alignment procedures requiring in-depth technical knowledge.
  • You perform trending analysis of various IF/RF equipment and submits (and implements) necessary corrective plan to prevent or reduce service affecting conditions.
  • You teach others on operational and maintenance procedures.
  • You use your experience and in-depth knowledge to determine best techniques and methods to resolve tasks.


Can you drive these processes?

  • You will monitor the conditions of commercial services and terrestrial facilities, including the status of system alarms, station plant and facility subsystems while working with state-of-the-art monitoring systems and test equipment.
  • You will support the development or enhancement of operational and maintenance procedures.
  • You review and audits system performance indicators.


You should definitely have:

  • Vocational training or equivalent technical education, ideally in the field of Electronic Communications.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to work 24x7 shift, including major holidays.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and understanding of systems level architecture and ground station equipment.
  • Demonstrated good knowledge of ancillary plant systems such as HVAC, UPS, electrical switchgear and generating systems. Ability to trains others in their functions and operating parameters.
  • You possess and apply in-depth working knowledge of RF theory, and basic electronics.
  • In-depth knowledge of a majority of major systems to include; antenna drive systems, High Power Amplifiers, Up/Down Converters, Fiber Optic sub-systems.
  • Good understanding of Baseband (modems, multiplexers, Broadband and IP technologies) and Video technologies/systems.
  • You work on various ground station communications systems, from field replaceable unit to component level. You train others in the performance of various tasks related to operations and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated in-depth working knowledge in the use of industry standard test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, power meters, synthesized generators, oscilloscopes, video wave form meters, multimeters, microwave network analyzers, network analyzers, bit error rate test sets. 
  • You identify and apply proper methods of testing equipment and RF/IF systems chains and have the proven ability to interpret results to prove normal/abnormal conditions of equipment.  You provide training to others. 
  • Possess strong system level troubleshooting and analytical skills, ability to analyze information and data from test measuring equipment and M&C data when resolving complex and difficult problems. 
  • Demonstrate ability to learn new technologies, grasp intricate technical concepts and makes informed decisions.
  • Strong communications skills both written and verbal
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and responsibility
  • Good PC skills and proficiency in use of “Office Suite” software.
