Your role in helping us shape the future:

You will be responsible for satellite system design, integration, validation and testing with regard to Payload subsystems (repeater and antennas), monitoring both Intelsat's own spacecraft programs and those of external customers who have contracted with Intelsat.  You will monitor multiple programs with different designs and will interface directly with customers in support of their programs.  You will be independently responsible for these Payload subsystems and will report directly to the Senior Manager of Intelsat’s Dulles, VA program office as necessary. 


Are you up to the challenge?

  • Manage and direct all tasks related to spacecraft payload procurement activities at all phases of the programs under supervision by Intelsat's Dulles, VA program office.
  • Interface with spacecraft manufacturers to manage all tasks related to the payload of spacecraft programs under supervision by Intelsat's Dulles, VA program office.
  • Coordinate technical support from other Intelsat groups as required for performing the primary function of the position.
  • In coordination with the Space Systems Acquisition management team, advise external customers on all payload related aspects of their satellite procurement.
  • Provide technical assessments of spacecraft payload design and performance, evaluating the adequacy of hardware and firmware as relates to satisfying the contractual requirements of applicable programs.
  • Provide technical suggestions and advice to the Space Systems Acquisition management team and the external customer on any issues resulting from technical assessments.
  • Ensure that payload performance remains compatible with other spacecraft subsystems.
  • Evaluate payload test programs at the subsystem and system levels to ensure that these test programs adequately test the performance of the spacecraft's hardware and firmware over the applicable range of environment. 
  • Witness spacecraft payload integration and test activities of applicable programs, organize comprehensive test data review and coordinate support from other Intelsat departments.
  • Coordinate relevant payload technical interface with other organizational entities of Intelsat and applicable external customers.


You should definitely have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study, with at least seven years of direct experience with spacecraft system design and testing, including antenna range testing.
  • The ability to work independently as part of a field office involved with continuous interface with customers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Top notch customer service skills, including the ability to respond to customer questions and requests in a timely manner and the ability to stay cool under pressure when investigating possible spacecraft anomalies.
  • Expert-level knowledge of spacecraft system design, hardware, firmware, programs and testing modules.
  • Excellent verbal and written command of the English language.


It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience in working with contractor or vendor management.
  • Experience in spacecraft payload design and evaluation and/or spacecraft antenna design and evaluation.
  • Experience with Ka band payload design and spot beam antenna design.
