The System Development Test Engineer supports Intelsat's Development Engineering team by testing, evaluating and bringing to market, new technologies and services that complement Intelsat's core and Managed Services product offerings.  This is a Systems Engineering position that requires knowledge and/or exposure to the engineering disciplines and technologies currently being implemented by Intelsat's Development Engineering team which include:  IP Networking and Architecture, plus RF Satellite Communications.

Work with a team of experienced development, design and deployment engineers who are responsible for the architecture, technical viability and operational implementation of Intelsat's managed services and the associated global IP network. Your mission is to perform lab testing with the goal of helping build the most reliable, high-performance and cost-effective space and ground network possible.

 

Are you up to the challenge?

 

  • You will work primarily in a lab environment under the guidance of more senior engineers.
  • You will be responsible for testing and evaluating the latest products and/or code releases from key OEM vendors for use within Intelsat's satellite and terrestrial networks.

 

 

Can you drive these processes?

 

  • Perform systems integration tasks associated with establishing a test environment, to include:  installing vendor equipment, fabricating and running cables, establishing the IP network environment for various testing scenarios, setting IF/RF levels and configuring a simulated and/or over-the-air satellite network environment for various testing scenarios.
  • Analyze and compare vendor product specifications with actual test results and provide recommendations.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering test plans, test procedures, test reports and training materials.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure first deployments go smoothly for new product rollouts and key product updates.
  • Manage different stages of product testing for different products simultaneously, completing assigned new product roll out subtasks on time to meet new product revenue targets. 
  • Increase testing efficiency by exploring methods for automating routine test scenarios
  • Occasionally assist other Network Engineering departments in the staging and testing of equipment prior to deployment to customer sites and/or other Intelsat facilities.

You should definitely have:

 

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a related engineering discipline and a minimum of one (1) year experience in following (an equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered in lieu of stated minimum education and experience requirements; experience is required in the following areas:
  • Working in a formal test lab environment and be familiar with test engineering best practices.
  • Using standard RF test equipment, such as:  Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, Noise Generators, Power Meters, and Network Analyzers.
  • Using IP network test equipment, such as: SMARTBITS or Spirent packet generators, packet sniffers, data analyzers and test sets.
  • A working knowledge of IP networking protocols, IP addressing, and VLANs.
  • the ability to configure the same on a variety of IP network switches and/or routers including Cisco and Juniper products.
  • Exposure to RF engineering, such as:  digital modulation (DVB-S/DVB-S2), frequency converters, high power amplifiers, etc.
  • Skills to include being well versed in multiple computer operating systems (MS Windows, Linux, Unix, MAC).
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical and communication skills.
  • The ability to perform physical support activities (e.g. cable tracing/running and racking, stacking, and replacing hardware.

 

It would be nice if you had:

 

  • CCNA or other networking certifications.
  • Experience working with one or more VSAT platforms and/or satellite modem products a strong plus.
  • Experience working with VMWare and other virtual applications a strong plus.
