As a leader, this position is responsible for growing a team that will be at the forefront of shaping DevNetOps practices aimed at enhancing network infrastructure and service delivery through an evolving Network Reliability Engineering discipline. The Manager will provide the leadership and expertise to the team pivotal for design, requirements analysis, architecture, development, evaluation, prototype demonstration, production implementation, and technical documentation within this area of Network Engineering. You will lead the development of network automation and orchestration strategies that will support network architecture, service provisioning, infrastructure deployment, and operations. You will provide management in a 24x7 environment, in order to ensure reliable performance of globally delivered customer solutions. Through the pivotal to application of remote management best practices, this role will ensure that there are structured and informal communication methods in place which will include effective information sharing and performance monitoring processes. This position will act as the primary management escalation contact for a team providing level 3 and 4 DevNetOps support. Additionally, this role will assist in the establishment of budgets, the forecasting of Capex/Opex trends and ROI business case support.

  • Lead the team in design, implementation, and support of network automation and orchestration solutions. Deploy and maintain the software and applications required for those solutions across the IntelsatOne network infrastructure and its services.
  • Analyze day-to-day tasks performed by Network Engineering teams and demonstrate how they can be improved by automation and/or programmability with emphasis on facilitating faster, more reliable deployment of infrastructure and delivery of services. 
  • Ensure that all design applies consistent methodology and industry best practices in order to deliver a stable and secure core network infrastructure that can be effectively operated by the Operations teams.
  • Collaborate extensively with Network Engineering & Operations teams to align the core network design/architecture and topology to the organization’s business plan.
  • Ensure the Network Reliability Engineering team has a strategic vision and has a 5-year roadmap that incorporates future technology development as well as strong infrastructure & service life cycle management. 
  • Develop Capex and Opex budget plans based on the roadmap, infrastructure & service life cycle and business requirements.
  • Provide guidance on all existing and proposed architecture to ensure that the design supports strong performance and that proper monitoring/analytic tools are in place.
  • Manage Statement of Work (SOW) process, ensuring that final documentation is provided through a standardized process to ensure the greatest work efficiency.
  • Work closely with Finance, Engineering, and other applicable departments to ensure the profitability of all project designs.
  • Monitor compliance with current operating standards, to best assess team effectiveness and process alignment.
  • Own the team’s developmental roadmap, ensuring alignment with other departments and corporate strategy.
  • Hires and develops new employees, delegates work and holds direct reports accountable for their performance within their defined roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and management of direct reports, ensuring each employee receives the professional development required to allow them to succeed in either the management track or as an individual contributor.
  • Enhance training materials and deliver ongoing training to Network Engineering and Operations Center team members.

Can you drive these processes?

 

Always represent the department as part of the core leadership team. Ensure that all projects follow procedural guidelines, meet operational requirements to drive and meet project timelines while maintaining quality deliverables and documentation.  Act as the point of contact for management escalation for your team providing level 3 and 4 service support. Document and comply with recordkeeping procedures. Manage the Capex and Opex budgets for the Core network team.

You should definitely have:

 

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline with at least seven years of network and/or systems experience (or an equivalent amount of education and work experience).
  • Subject matter expertise in IP Network Administration or Systems Administration, with a secondary discipline of either IP Network Administration, Systems Administration, or Application Deployment.
  • Intermediate to expert level understanding and/or implementation of network architectures, best practices, and protocols such as; IPv4, IPv6, IS-IS, OSPF, MP-BGP, LDP, RSVP-TE, HSRP, VRRP, and STP.
  • Experience with reading and manipulating modeling, data serialization, and encoding formats such as YANG, YAML, JSON, and XML, respectively, with an understanding of underlying structures and their performance.
  • Experience in reading, dissecting, and consuming Application Programming Interfaces (API’s) in a RESTful architecture.
  • Experience with high-level programming and/or scripting in Python, Go, and/or Shell, respectively, with emphasis on using network and/or data communication libraries to accomplish network automation and programmability tasks.
  • Experience with IT automation tools such as Ansible.
  • Experience working with IP network performance technologies and solutions to deliver Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) and optimize network infrastructures.
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, utilize creative problem-solving abilities, and efficiently interact with peers.

It would be nice if you had:

 

  • Professional/Expert level network certifications such as the CCNP or CCIE.
  • Professional/Expert level Linux certifications such as the LFCS or LFCE.
  • Experience with Cisco Network Service Orchestrator (NSO).
  • Experience with using virtualization and/or containers to scale compute, network, and application resources.
  • Strong knowledge of software implementation and/or application deployment methodologies, practices, concepts, and solutions.
